Roter Veltliner is an old, autochthonous white variety that is only found in a few of Austria’s winegrowing regions – and the eastern Kremstal is one of them! We cultivate Roter Veltliner in Ried Tiefenthal, which is nicely ventilated and grows on pure loess, ideal for this grape variety. During vinification, we give the wine a maceration period of three hours, let it ferment in steel tanks and then, to make it smoother, put it partly in used wooden casks that, however, leave no traces of flavouring. Stylistically, Roter Veltliner lies somewhere between our most important varieties, Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The fruit is more exotic, more opulent and warmer than Grüner Veltliner, with not as much spice, while the acidity is definitely milder than that of Riesling. During vinification, we give the wine a maceration period of three hours, let it ferment in steel tanks and then, to make it smoother, put it partly in used wooden casks that, however, leave no traces of flavouring. On the palate, the wine presents itself with a warm tone and a fine texture, which is also emphasized by the aging in used or large wooden casks.
